Purpose of Establishment
- Teachers assign an appropriate amount of homework to help students consolidate and apply the knowledge and skills learned in school.
- This allows students and parents to understand the students’ learning progress and level, gradually moving towards self-directed learning.
Principles of Establishment
Based on the homework time ratios provided by the Education Bureau, including the following documents (see attachments):
- “Primary Education Curriculum Guide” (Primary 1 to Primary 6), Chapter 6 “Effective Homework”
- Education Bureau Circular No. 18/2015 “Guidelines on Homework and Tests in Schools – No Drilling, Effective Learning”
- Education Bureau Circular No. 176/2015 “Selection of Quality Textbooks and Curriculum Resources for Use in Schools (Supplementary Notes) – Prudent Selection and Use”
Functions of Homework

- Promote self-learning under the professional design and appropriate guidance of teachers.
- Assist students in understanding their learning progress and issues, leading them to seek methods to solve difficulties.
- Enable teachers to identify challenges students face in learning, allowing for adjustments in teaching plans and strategies, providing timely feedback to facilitate effective learning.
- Evaluate students’ performance in acquiring knowledge, mastering skills, and developing good attitudes and positive values, effectively feeding back into curriculum planning and implementation.
- Help parents understand their children’s learning progress and characteristics, allowing them to provide timely support.
- Enable parents to understand the requirements of the school curriculum, collaborating together to help students improve their learning.
Homework Design
Our school introduces various types of school-based homework, each designed in accordance with teaching and learning development priorities, integrating different learning strategies to cultivate students’ learning abilities. Homework types are diverse and include, but are not limited to, reading, note-taking, revision, interviews, data collection, or online homework.
Role of Parents
- As students complete homework primarily at home, parents play an important role. The school will maintain contact with parents, suggesting methods to guide their children where feasible. Parents can also browse the online resource “Meaningful Assignment: A Parent’s Guide.”
- Parents should provide an appropriate environment for their children, such as setting designated homework times, preparing adequate stationery, and removing obstacles to homework completion, such as noise and distractions.
- Parents must clearly understand the purpose and requirements of homework and offer appropriate guidance to their children.
- They should carefully read their children’s homework books and the feedback provided.
- Parents should inquire about their children’s homework status and supervise their effective use of time to complete assignments.
- They should review teachers’ comments on homework, follow up, and sign (if applicable) concerning the completion and improvement of assignments.
- Communication with school teachers is essential to understand children’s learning progress and to communicate children’s attitudes towards learning at home. If difficulties arise, parents should discuss solutions with teachers promptly.
- Parents should arrange various developmental activities for their children, teaching them how to use their leisure time wisely, appropriately schedule daily routines, and avoid mechanical exam preparation in outside institutions or locations.
